President's Message

President's Message

January 28, 2011

Old man winter has come to town.  In fact, he must feel cold himself, as I believe he has visited the Gulf Coast and Florida several times seeking warmth.

As International President, my wife Judy and I have traveled across the southeast portion of Sertoma Land.  We have enjoyed the warmth of the Sertoman's we met and found a sincere and deep passion for their club sponsorships.  I am honored to have had the opportunity in the first half of the year to visit the clubs I have and witness the remarkable "SERvice TO MAnkind" in their communities.

The club visits and events I have attended as an officer of Sertoma, confirms that Sertoman's are making a big difference in their communities each and every day, regardless of their location.  I'm impressed with the pride Sertoman's have in their communities and club sponsorships, and their support of our national mission of hearing health.  My visits and travels have shown me that Sertoma clubs are action oriented problem solvers who have become a vitally important part of their community.  Because of the depth of their involvement in the community, the clubs have become the "go to" in the community. The clubs' FOCUS on action demonstrates their passion and commitment to "Making Life Worthwhile through SERvice TO MAnkind".

The passion that is exhibited by Sertoman's for the sponsorships of their club must continue.  In order to ensure that those sponsorships continue, we must channel some of that passion and energy to sharing Sertoma by recruiting members and building new clubs.  The Opportunity to recruit new members and build new clubs surrounds us, if we Unite and Commit ourselves to expanding Service to ensure the Future of Sertoma.

We must also channel some of that passion and energy into efforts to retaining members by keeping the fire of passion in our members burning strong by communicating our accomplishments with each and every member. We must recognize not only those who support our fundraisers and events, but those who give freely of their time and efforts.

I challenge you to FOCUS on retaining, recruiting and building new clubs in our communities and other communities to ensure the future of Sertoma.  I challenge you to keep the warmth and passion in our hearts burning strong for your club's sponsorships and to share Sertoma.

Your President, Dennis Lawler
